Now over 40 years old, Vans began life in 1966 as the Van Doren Rubber Company in Anaheim, California. Founded by Paul Van Doren and three partners, the company was unique in that it manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. The company gained further notoriety when in 1976, the Vans #95, now known as the Era, was designed by Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta and became the shoe of choice for a generation of skateboarders. Three years later, with the help of skateboarders and BMX riders, the Vans #44 slip-on was introduced and became the rage in Southern California. The company continued to forge innovative designs and 2005, continuing on from their highly publicised collaborative project with Marc Jacobs, the Vans Vault collection was launched. The collection is produced in Extremely Limited numbers using only the finest premium fabrics on existing classics and available through only a select number of the worlds coolest boutiques. |
