Nigel Cabourn has brought the 'Army Gym' moniker to life with this one as he teams up with Converse and their First String arm to create this highly limited collaboration. When Cabourn remarked a few months back that he was re-designing the British Army P.E. sneaker, a few of us winced as the painful memories of school came flooding back to us. Granted the army gym is a little different to jogging around the school assembly hall in your vest but you can kind of see where our train of thought was headed. Fast forward a few months and the lookbook has landed, much to our delight when we seen the polished product.

The pairing is centred around the 'Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey' which is an incredibly functional model even before we've got to the material choices. Taking design cues from the classic duck boot it is capable of holding it's own under a variety of weather conditions. This particular release see's the intelligent use of the renowned Ventile fabric, creating an almost impeccable cotton upper. If you've not heard of it before, Ventile is an unrivalled material which was first invented to protect fighter pilots during World War II. It's come a long way since then, but is still used as a military material in the present day. Aside from this, brands like Stone Island have also utilised it for their outerwear as it provides a light windproof solution capable of dealing with sudden changes in climate. As well as being functional to the highest degree, Ventile's rich history is what made it an obvious choice for Nigel Cabourn when replicating the British Army sneaker for this release.

Now we've let you know what they're all about it's time for a few of the finer details including that price tag you were dreading. Well, we're sure you'll be pleasantly surprised as the price is decidedly more Converse than Cabourn. Although the quality is exactly the same as it would be if these were solely a Cabourn venture, the price is pocket friendly and at £85 they're a pretty sound investment. Given they're not exactly the same colourway as Mike's but the Nike Air Max 180 was once worn by the great Michael Jordan on the court during the Olympic games. Not to drop names but we figured if they're good enough for arguably the best basketballer ever, then they're pretty much good enough for anybody else. Despite them being primarily designed as a running shoe it's their huge crossover appeal which makes them suitable for day to day wear. They were designed all the way back in the 90s but the OG Ultramarine has stayed unrivalled when it comes to the colourway the people covet most.

Placing light textile panels against sumtuous suede the upper is about as beautiful as a sneaker gets, and all this of course sits on top of the air visible sole. For 2013 Nike have 'vintage-ed' it by giving it an aesthetic complimenting ageing treatment. It's a look that gives it a 'fresh out of the attic' feel and although the brand have come under fire for using it as much as they have, we feel it does the shoe tremendous justice.

The Nike Air Max 180 is perhaps one of the most iconic shoes we can remember and next to the 90 and Air Max 1 (which we also have) they will go down in history summarising all that was great about the brand during the 80s and 90s. Boston's Bodega is one of the countries finest establishments when it comes to sneakers and particularly those of a limited run. More than just a store the guys behind it are clearly unparalleled taste-makers. They've already worked their magic on some of Saucony's most historic silhouettes and this season they continue to do so, using two G9 models as their canvas. In the past the collaborations have went from being relatively slept on to internet famous and gone in a matter of hours so we're pretty excited to have these under our roof, even if it's just for a few days. They come from the brand's Elite tier, a tier concerned with designing footwear that's just that little bit different and a cut above their mainline line-up.

Both the Shadow 5 and Shadow 6 are treated to an attractive midsole and a myriad of mish mashed panels that result in a bold and brash aesthetic. We've seen a little criticism for these being perhaps too out there but for us, that's what makes these worth owning. Saucony have always been a cult choice, quietly bubbling under the surface renowned for comfort and unassuming beauty. All of their models stay true to the brand's athletic roots and these two are particularly good examples, suitable for performance as well as looking pretty.

In a world of weekly releases from the likes of Nike and adidas, it's easy for a sportswear brand to become overlooked. Saucony however, have always stayed quietly beneath the surface, renowned for comfort and quality but never quite hitting the big time in terms of mass popularity. 2013 though, will hopefully see a resurgence as the brand put forward a slew of their most revered models including the infamous Grid 9000.

It's a bold model echoing the design ideals of the 1990s but somehow still looking relevant in today's market. It's inception back then was a revelation, utilising a neoprene sock much like the coveted Nike Huarache but still appearing original and slightly unusual. This type of footwear technology is absolutely unrivalled and there have been few advancements in the comfort stakes since. In terms of aesthetic the 'Grid 9000' is daring but beautiful nonetheless. It's many panels facilitate great experimentation which could be the reason every colorway seems to come out looking so good, because almost every component can be customized to create new and exciting results.

As well as looking the part the Grid 9000 is also geared for perfromance with it offering stabilized comfort, almost hugging the foot as you pound the pavement. It was originally designed as a long distance runner so you can be confident it's more than up to the task of keeping you comfortable on your day to day errands. Levi's and their 'LVC' line is highly regarded among those in the know. From devoted forum types to Americana aficionados it is one of menswear's great talking points and their collections always seem to get tongues wagging. They're kind of like a sneaker brand in the sense that they always have their fans guessing which archived model they're going to re-release or which of their styles are set to make a comeback. Also similar to a sportswear brand they also have a history in toil and hard work, outfitting the nation's strongest men and hardest grafters.

Work and utility wear has always been prevalent in the brand's collections before now but for Spring & Summer '13 Levi's have sped off down a slightly different route, head first into the historic 'Hot Rod' scene. Famed for their flash cars and fiery engines, it is easy to overlook the participants attire. However, closer inspection with a keen eye reveals that the racers were actually impeccably dressed as well as impeccably driven. From a fresh pair of Levi's to a piece of embellished shirting, both the drivers and spectators looked the part when it came to race-day and that's what Levi's have paid homage to.

It's a bold collection which is heavily centred around the culture's main epicentre, the United States. The stars and stripes feature on numerous occasions and traditional materials are used for that authentic American aesthetic. The offering is a comprehensive one and there are a number of versatile t-shirts and sweatshirts to layer with the more jazzier shirts enabling day to day wear. As you might expect the denim is also well considered and even sees one of favourite models make a welcome return. The 605 is a skinny silhouette and arguably the most contemporary pair on the LVC roster. This year we see them in a wearable 'Heavy Rain' wash which seems to gel well with everything we've put them to. Levi's are experts when it comes to crafting collections that both impress and perform so you can be confident that for every crazy piece there is a grounded piece waiting to go with it.
